1. Our Commitment

Wired/Different is committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and respectful online space for neurodivergent individuals. Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility.

2. Who We Safeguard

We support:

  • Neurodivergent young people aged 16+
  • Adults who may be considered vulnerable under the Care Act 2014
  • Members at risk of abuse, neglect, or exploitation

3. Types of Abuse We Safeguard Against

  • Emotional and psychological abuse
  • Online bullying and harassment
  • Exploitation (e.g. grooming, financial abuse)
  • Discrimination or hate speech
  • Self-harm or mental health crises

4. Online Safety Practices

  • Moderated forums and group chats
  • Code of Conduct for all members
  • Report/Block features on community platform
  • No 1:1 private messaging unless with trained facilitators
  • Age verification at sign-up
  • Parental/carer contact where appropriate (under 18s)

5. Staff Responsibilities

  • All staff and moderators will be DBS checked (if interacting with minors or vulnerable adults)
  • All staff will receive safeguarding training
  • Any concerns will be reported immediately to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)

6. Reporting a Concern

Members can report safeguarding issues by:

We will respond within 24 hours and follow appropriate referral procedures.

7. Responding to Concerns

Concerns will be recorded, risk-assessed, and escalated if needed:

  • To police or emergency services (if immediate danger)
  • To social care or mental health support agencies
  • With consent where appropriate, unless risk of serious harm

8. Confidentiality & Record Keeping

Safeguarding concerns are kept confidential and securely stored. We follow GDPR principles and retain safeguarding records for 6 years.
